Social inclusion work does not happen in isolation. For it to be successful, there are underpinning values and beliefs, and some skills and practices that are essential to success. These include:
- a really strong grip on person-centred planning, so you support the person to build on their vision of a good life, rather than impose your own preferences or narrow the person’s options to what services provide. You can check if your approach to planning is genuinely person-centred here.
- a full repertoire of the skills needed to promote inclusion. You can find these all catalogued in the Social Inclusion Training Pack. You could use the statistical analysis aspect of the Inclusion Web to find out which of these strategies are most effective.
